Question / Issue
Is my website ADA Compliant?

Answer / Solution

Q&A: Are Our Websites ADA Compliant?

The Americans with Disabilities Act became law in 1990 to make sure people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else.

How can websites be ADA compliant?

Many people with disabilities use assistive technology, like screen readers or text enlargement software, that enables them to browse the web. The more compliant elements there are on a website, the easier it is for assistive technology to read. Alt tags for images are an example of a compliant element.

Are Insurance Website Builder sites ADA compliant?

There are varying levels of compliance. It depends on what your website is doing and what types of media you present on your site.

Insurance Website Builder sites are WCAG 1.0 Priority 2 compliant as long as content has not been added that breaks compliance (for example, adding an image to a blog but not added an alt tag).

To illustrate the progressive nature of WGAC compliance, for a website to meet level one multimedia requirements, you need to offer captions on prerecorded videos. Level two compliance requires that you have captions on live video. For level three compliance, you need to add sign language and have a transcript including all relatable movements and gestures.

As you can see achieving and maintaining WGAC compliance is difficult. Review the following resources to determine what level of compliance you require for your website’s needs.
